HIGHLIGHTS:

Air Sampling Smoke Detection vs Beam Detectors

INSTALLATION TIME:

Beam detectors are simpler to install with simple beam alignment procedure between the Beam Transmitter and receiver/reflector. On the other hand, the installation for air sampling or aspirating smoke detection system can take much more time with piping & panel commissioning

Scoreboard:

Air Sampling 0 – 1 Beam Detector

MAINTENANCE TIME:

Beam detectors maintenance is much more difficult than air sampling system as it requires accessing high ceiling levels in case of faults or beam realignments. However, once an Air sampling system is installed,  the maintenance is always easily done at the panel level only.

Scoreboard:

Air Sampling 1 – 1 Beam Detector

AREA OF APPLICATION:

Beam detectors cannot be installed in dusty environment like saw mills, textile and wool factory, lumber mill etc. However, Air sampling smoke detection system can easily be used in such environments as dust is separated from detection chamber by special filters and passes through an advanced air analysis detection chamber.

Scoreboard:

Air Sampling 2 – 1 Beam Detector

SYSTEM DESIGN TIME:

Design time for Beam detectors are easier where as Air sampling system needs to be designed through a dedicated pipe and air flow software for flow calculation and correct accessories needs to be chosen which increases design time.

Scoreboard:

Air Sampling 2 – 2 Beam Detector

INSTALLATION COST:

Beam detector costs lesser during installation stages as it mostly involves only having wiring at the Transmitter side. However, Air Sampling system involves much more installation cost due to installation of pipes to cover the area.

Scoreboard:

Air Sampling 2 – 3 Beam Detector

COVERAGE AREA & SENSITIVITY:

Beam detectors can only cover one area of detection with a single sensitivity level. However, a single Air Sampling panel can have two or more zones with 2 different sensitivity levels which helps to cover bigger area and complex requirements

Scoreboard:

Air Sampling 3 – 3 Beam Detector
